Grammy-nominated cellist Christine Kim is a versatile freelance artist who has worked with some of the biggest names in today’s industry. Christine is based in Los Angeles.
Christine is a versatile cellist whose talent and sensibility have allowed her to thrive across a diverse musical landscape from art music to hip-hop.
Originally from Los Angeles, Ms. Kim began playing the cello at the age of four, studying under the guidance of former Los Angeles Philharmonic principal cellist Ronald Leonard. Upon acceptance to The Juilliard School, Ms. Kim continued her training with renowned cellist Carter Brey, principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic and Professor Harvey Shapiro and was fortunate enough to take private lessons with Russian cello luminary Mstislav Rostropovich. After graduating from Juilliard, Ms. Kim moved to Germany to work with Professor David Geringas and Troels Svane.
In 2005, Christine returned to New York City to pursue freelance opportunities in addition to continuing her career as a soloist. Ms. Kim has toured with major international acts including Sheryl Crow; has an ongoing collaboration with Singer/Songwriter Dar Williams; earned a Grammy nomination for her work with the East Village Opera Company’s release of Olde School and is a recurring presence on numerous national television shows and specials including Saturday Night Live (NBC), Late Light with Jimmy Fallon (NBC), The View (ABC), A Michael Buble Christmas (NBC), The Victoria Secret Fashion Show (CBS) and Muhammad Ali’s Power of Love.
In addition to her successful career as a performing artist Ms. Kim is an accomplished musical coordinator assembling orchestras for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, The National Football League, Jeff Beck, Kanye West, Deep Purple, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Dead Can Dance, Clay Aiken, Queensryche, and Il Volo, as well as the scores for AMC television series Rubicon and documentary films Voyage to Amasia and Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer.
